Keep Us Alive
(by Geoff Winder)

I want to scream silent shouts of overcrowded isolation
My cold a pain from constant fire of frozen ashes
Your hatred an iceberg of exploding emotion
Piercing the steel of my tender heart
Words like poisoned blades cut dully through my wilting faith
In silent resolution I cry steaming droplets of heavenly blood
And in our unity we stand against a torrent of subliminal slurs
And words like volleys of stinging arrows
Tear at my flesh and reduce me to ashamed tears
My embarrassment feeds the strength that unity brings
Diversity--our strength of different weaknesses
A strength and asset that you ignore, hate, condemn, despise
Like a symbiotic organism we need each other
For our diversity keeps us in constant inanimate motion of flying colors and love
DIVERSITY KEEPS US ALIVE.

We are located in the Communication Studies department at California State University, Sacramento.
